Obituary For Thomas Ernst

Thomas Ernst, 64

Thomas Ernst was born on August 16, 1958 and passed peacefully on August 15, 2023 with his wife and children at his side.

Thomas was a lifelong Staten Islander, a retired fireman/foreman of the public school system, and above all a dedicated husband, father, and "pop pop." Tom's greatest treasure was his family, and he absolutely adored his grandson Frankie more than anything. He devoted his life to providing for his family and taught them the greatest values & lessons. Tom met his true sweetheart, Patricia, through work and mutual friends. They built a fulfilling life together, enjoyed family traditions, and have been married for nearly 35 years this November. Their relationship and love is incomparable. Tom recently celebrated one year of cancer remission, and has proven his strength through all battles that came his way.

Tom was a hard working, dedicated, loving, and good-humored man. He enjoyed watching the NY Mets & NY Giants, listening to rock n' roll, playing word games, darts, and fishing. He was always the life of the party, and will be sorely missed by all family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Ernst, loving children Megan (Ernst) Baran & Nicholas Ernst, son-in-law Frank Baran, and grandson Frank. He was the son of the late John and Eleanor Ernst; loving brother to Ellen (late) and husband Frank Fabiani, John and wife Linda Ernst, Edward (late) and wife Joyce Ernst, James and wife Mary Ernst, Joanne Choma, and a cherished uncle to three generations of nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be held at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, on Friday, August 18th from 5pm to 9pm, with a service at 8pm. A private cremation will follow; in lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to St. Jude at https://raise.stjude.org/Thomas or your own meaningful charity.
