Obituary For Patricia Herbert

Native Staten Islander Patricia (Pat) Herbert died on January 21, 2024 in Staten Island University Hospital North, surrounded by her loving family. Pat was born in Grant City to Thesea and Divillio (Dave) Zucconi. She attended St Christopher’s School and graduated from St John Villa Academy, where she drove the nuns crazy with her love of red lipstick and talking in class. Always one to find the best in any situation, Pat met her husband of 61 years, John Herbert, when she was out with friends and he came to their aid to help fix a flat tire. Pat and John were married in the original St Christopher’s Church in Grant City on June 22, 1963. After briefly living in John’s home borough of Brooklyn, they settled in Richmondtown where they raised their two children John Herbert and Terri Herbert Mangas. Driven by her love of her hometown, Pat became active in the Richmondtown Clarke Avenue Civic Association and worked tirelessly to preserve the beauty and safety of her neighborhood. Pat fully embraced her Irish heritage and enjoyed being a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She loved to march in the St Patrick’s Day parades both on Forest Avenue and in Manhattan, regardless of the weather. At parties she loved to sing along to Irish songs, regardless of whether or not she knew the words. An avid bowler, Pat bowled on various leagues for over sixty years. Well into her 80’s she was still using a 14 pound ball to throw strikes, a fact of which she was immensely proud.

None of these things, however, compare to Pat’s love of her family. She was fiercely devoted to her husband, her children John and Terri, their spouses Lisa (Cifuni) Herbert and Louis Mangas. She adored her three grandsons, John Herbert, Kevin Herbert and Louie Mangas, whom affectionately referred to as “her little darlings”, no matter how old they were. Her adventurous spirit, and zest for life always made Pat the life of the party and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Viewing will begin Thursday January 25th, 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. A funeral mass will be held the following day Friday January 26th, at St. Patricks Church at 10am followed by a entombment at Moravian Cemetery.

My heart is so very saddened Pat was my friend for over 60 years more like a g reat sister. Her parents were lovingly alled grandparents by my children. Miles kept us apart but we spoke very often for hours. I will certainly miss sharing memories and many laughs with her . Pat will always live forever in my heart until we meet again. When that day comes I ll bring a hot fudge sundae. Love you Pat forever Rest in Peace. Hugs and Prayers to you all. Annette
