Obituary For Maria E. Huertas

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that The Huertas Family announce the passing of our beloved family member Maria Elisa Huertas, of New Dorp, Staten Island, at Staten Island University Hospital after a long period of illness on March 8, 2024. Maria transitioned with dignity, grace and surrounded by love from her family.

Maria Elisa was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on 12/02/1940, and is predeceased by her parents Froilan Huertas, and Carmen Elisa Huertas Blanco. Maria Huertas is a graduate of Central Commercial High School. Maria was a generous and loving sister, mother figure to her family, aunt and friend to many. She leaves behind her surviving sisters, Violet, Carmen, Cathy, Acela, Rosemary, Susan, and brothers, Wally, Manny, Ralph and Philip Maria is predeceased by her brothers, Juan De Dios, Jose, and Steven.Maria is loving and kind aunt to her countless nieces and nephews.

Maria’s career included sales and Banquet Manager in the Food and Beverage Hotel and Hospitality Industry primarily in the JFK Airport area and was instrumental and credited with helping many hotel prosperities achieve prominence in the area. Maria lived in San Juan, Puerto Rico for many years, and had a long career working in sales departments on many hotel properties in San Juan, and always looked at the years she spent on her native island with fondness.

Maria’s was a generous person, her door was always open to family members, close friends from across the ocean. Maria was a feminist, championing the rights of others, sweet, kind person, and always had a kind word for all. Maria will be sorely missed by her many family members and friends.

The Huertas family especially thanks our loving and kind nephew Dr. David Darrigan for being there in our time of need and for his selfless generosity assisting our family in the transitioning process for our sister. We can never thank him enough for all he has done, and all he continues to do.

    My deepest condolence to the Huertas family. I had the privilege of working with Maria for several years. What a lovely lady she was. I am so lost for words. Maria was graceful, loving and diligent in all she did. Heaven has gained an angel. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Sleep well Titi

    My Friend Maria, I will forever be grateful to you for being there for me when i needed you soo. You were my best friend. The day you left P.R. I felt so lost. You are irreplaceable.     She was a beautiful woman inside and out. Maria had a big heart she was always so sweet to me and my mom whenever we were in her company. She will be missed. RIP.
