Obituary For Marcella Ruth Gaglio

Marcella Gaglio

October 29, 1945 - May 11, 2024

Marcella, 78, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, May 11, 2024 after a long battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). The rare, debilitating disease stripped her of her independence, but she bravely fought as long as she could.

Marcy was the beloved wife of Paul Gaglio for 58 years. She was predeceased by her siblings, David and Rodger Ferguson. She was the loving mother of Paula Young and her husband Todd, Michele Ferrante and her husband John, Michael Gaglio and his wife Kristi and Antonia Lombardi. She was adored by her nine grandchildren: Brandon Young, Amanda Young, Gabriella Ferrante, Arianna Ferrante, Joseph Paul Lombardi, Sarina Lombardi, Michael Paul Gaglio Jr., Matthew Gaglio, and Ryan Gaglio.

Marcella was born in New York, New York in 1945 to David and Marcella Ferguson. She spent her early childhood in Hollis, Queens until she moved to Staten Island in her teens. She was a graduate of Tottenville High School. She was an integral part of the family business, Paul Gaglio General Contractors, Inc. until she became ill.

Marcy loved spending time with family and friends. Marcy also loved to cook, get a “good deal”, travel, play slots in Atlantic City, line dance, bowl and see Broadway shows. She always had “a thousand things to do” but she somehow she got it all done, without a complaint. She also loved listening to the oldies, watching tv and eating ice cream - no matter what time of year.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respect at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, NY, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Family Church, 366 Watchogue Road, Staten Island, NY, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

Services at Moravian Cemetery to follow.

To Paul and the Gaglio family, my condolences on the passing of Marci. She was a wonderful person, loved life, loved her family and loved travelling. I knew her from St. Rita's school and from the beauty parlor but also through Doris Ferrante and Cassie. A number of the builders would have excursions. I realize you are grieving now but God was good in taking her so there would be no more suffering. I know from Marie Desiderato that while she was unable to move her mind was as sharp as ever. The fact that she was aware of what was happening and couldn't express herself had to be devestating to Marci. I will keep all of you in my prayers. Mary Polli

A kind, beautiful, strong woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She reminded me of my own mother and I always felt a special connection with her. She will be greatly missed. No more suffering. Rest in peace with the Angels Marci.
