Obituary For Isabella Pugliares

Isabella Pugliares, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024 at the age of 93 after a long illness. Isabella was born in Manhattan on July 12, 1930 to parents Dominick and Rita Tassielli. She attended Our Lady of Good Council School and graduated from the Women’s Garment Trade School in Manhattan.

Isabella went on to marry John Pugliares in 1958 and moved to Staten Island in 1964, eventually settling in New Dorp where she attended Our Lady Queen of Peace parish. She worked part time as a data keypunch operator while raising her two young children and then full time at Richmond Memorial Hospital for nearly twenty years.

After retiring, Isabella and John enjoyed new activities including tennis and ballroom dancing. She was an active member of the Staten Island Ballroom Dancers, Inc. and the local chapter of the AARP. Isabella liked to keep fit by going on daily walks and participating in classes at the local YMCA several times a week well into her eighties.

Isabella enjoyed traveling, reading, seeing Broadway plays, and cooking for her family and friends. Most of all she loved being with her children and her two granddaughters, whom she adored.

Isabella was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2018, her sister, Mary, in 1991 and her brother, Frank, in 1983. She is survived by her children Lawrence and Anita, son-in-law, James Smith, granddaughters Caitlin Redner and Emily Smith, two great grandchildren and her brother Perry. Isabella was loved and will be missed by all.

A mass of cremains will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Our Lady Queen of Peace church at 10:00am.
