Obituary For Irene L. Harrison

Irene Harrison, 80, of New Dorp, Staten Island, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on July 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Irene was born in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late John J. and Helen M. McPhelin. She married Robert E. Harrison in October of 1971 and moved to Staten Island in 1974, shortly after the birth of their son. Irene was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and was the glue that kept her family connected. The Harrison home was always the center of the action where all neighborhood kids felt comfortable. Irene acted as a “mom” to all, helping neighbors, friends, family and strangers alike. She worked as a paraprofessional with the NYC Department of Education at New Dorp and Wagner High Schools. Irene was very dedicated to her students and truly made an impact on their lives, keeping in touch with them even after graduation.

She was always a very generous person. When her children were younger, Irene enjoyed volunteer work with the Girls Scouts and the Mothers’ Club of Our Lady Queen of Peace School, and later at Eger Nursing Home with her students. She donated generously to the various causes she supported

Irene was a long-time active member of OLQP Church, singing in the choir for many years, also serving as a Lecter and Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed visiting friends, going to the beach and spending time with her grandchildren, who she showered with love and attention.

Irene was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Harrison and her son Scott G. Harrison, who passedaway in December of 2021.

She is survived by her daughters, Tara and her husband Michael Trombetta, and Erin Harrison, as well as her daughter-in-law, Heather Harrison. Her grandchildren, Harper Harrison, Alice and Buddy Trombetta, were the light of her life and brought her so much joy. Irene is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Barbara Percoco, Fran Harrison, and Eileen McPhelin, and her grand-dog Tala, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Friday, July 7 from 3:30-8:30pm at Hanley Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 8, 9:30am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

Donations in the name of Irene Harrison can be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

Dear Tara, Mike, Alice, Buddy, Erin, Heather and Harper, My deepest sympathies to you during this time and ongoing. Mrs. H was truly an angel on earth. She was an angel to me during my childhood and taught me what love looked like toward children. mrs. H. also taught me what a family can be and felt like. No matter who you were, you were always welcomed in her home with love, laughter, food, helping hands and a story to leave with. Mrs. H created a culture of love, laughter and belonging in her house without effort, it was her nature. Mrs H's mark on the world will continue in all that knew her and continue to be touched by her ways. She will live on in all that were lucky enough to know her. may she rest in peace with her husband, son and family in heaven. so much Love. Dara
