Obituary For Howard J. Dempsey

Howard Joseph Dempsey, Howie, beloved husband, father and grandfather, formerly of New Springville, passed away on February 18,2024 in Delray Beach,Florida. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diane Dempsey (nee Parolari), daughter Caroline Fazzino and her husband Anthony, daughter Daria Corzani and her husband Riccardo, and grandchildren Michael and Ava Grace Fazzino. He is also survived by brother Tom Dempsey and his wife Judy, along with many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Howard was the son of the late Howard and Mary Dempsey and brother of the late Richard Andrews, Grace Kane and JoAnn Gagliardi. He was born in Manhattan and moved to New Dorp Beach with his family as a child. He married in 1968 and settled in New Springville, where he remained until his retirement to Delray Beach, Florida in 2017.

Howard graduated from New Dorp High School in 1967 and immediately began working for the New York Telephone Company by day and painting the lower deck of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge by night. He was also employed by the Department of Sanitation of the City of New York before founding his limousine/transportation company, D’Elegance Limousines in 1983.

Howard was an avid reader and New York Yankees fan. Although he enjoyed traveling, Howard’s favorite place to be was at home with his family. His great loves were his family and New York City. He was known and loved for his generous nature and his sense of humor.

He is so loved and will forever be missed.

Visitation from 4PM to 7:30PM on Thursday, March 14 at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, New York. Funeral mass at 9:30AM on Friday, March 15 at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 61 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, New York. Interment following at Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island.
