Obituary For Ernesto Velez Jr.

Ernesto Velez Jr, 63 of Staten Island, NY passed away September 19, 2023. Born in Manhattan on September 25, 1959, he recently retired from the Richmond County Clerkโ€™s Office where he worked for 20 years. Prior to that, he worked as a Snug Harbor Ranger and at the Hylan Boulevard ShopRite for 15 years where he greatly enjoyed his work helping the public.

Ernesto loved the joy of singing and dancing, and some of his happiest moments were singing with his wife Donna at their parish, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in New Dorp. He enjoyed chess, visits to Atlantic City, the Jets for football, the Mets for baseball, pizza, and White Castle. Most of all, he loved his wife Donna, and they enjoyed nearly 29 years together before his untimely passing before September 25 -- his 64th birthday and 29th wedding anniversary.

Ernesto is predeceased by his mother Lydia Velez, father Ernesto Velez, sisters Ellie Velez-Ramos and Lucy Colon, and in-laws Nicholas and Theresa Romeo. He is survived by beloved niece Sophia, nephew Robert, aunts, cousins, and 4 generations of family.

His memorial service will be held on Sunday September 24th from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and from 7:00PM to 9:00 PM at Hanley Funeral Home (60 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island NY). The funeral mass will be held on Monday September 25th at Our Lady Queen of Peace parish in New Dorp at 9:30AM, with a private cremation to follow.

To Ernesto, my second dad, my friend that made Staten Island worth traveling to five days a week: I miss you dearly. How I wish that I could see you one last time. I can't hold my tears back anymore. I love you always Ernesto, and when the grand resurrection happens, I MUST be there to welcome you back to a wonderful life- the way God meant for life to be. A far cry from the misery and suffering you endured in this life. I'm so glad I told you how much you meant to me while I could, and your lovely wife knows as well. The farewell card you wrote me when I left along with your gift, I will never discard. Never. You're in my heart always.

He will be missed for sure. At work for the past 20 years we shared Sports and prayer talks. He always was so concerned about me and spoke so highly of me. And he always looked up to me like a brother. So sad you had to pass so soon. But I know you're at the lords table Enjoying a glass of wine. God bless you and Donna. Until we meet again in heaven Gods Speed
