Obituary For Edward Lauria

Edward Lauria, PE, a distinguished leader in New York City's engineering and architectural community, passed away on March 31, 2024, at Staten Island University Hospital.

Born on May 18, 1935, in the Bronx, NY, Lauria's journey began with a foundation of education, graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School before earning his Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the College of the City of New York.

Lauria's illustrious career spanned over five decades, marked by significant contributions to both public service and professional organizations.

He held various roles including Engineer, Chief Engineer and Deputy Borough Superintendent at the New York City Department of Buildings,

In 1972, Lauria co-founded Lauria & Rowe, Architects and Engineers, which later evolved into Lauria Associates, Architects and Engineers, where he remained active until his passing.

Beyond his professional achievements, Lauria was deeply committed to his community and industry associations.

He served as President of the National Society of Professional Engineers and held leadership positions in numerous advisory councils, including the New York City Zoning Advisory Council and the Mayors Building Industry Advisory Council.

Lauria's dedication extended beyond professional realms, as he actively participated in civic associations, political campaigns, and community boards.

Lauria's life was also marked by notable events such as his service in the United States Army Reserves as a Captain, Aviator, and Instructor Pilot, including duties such as Presidential flights and FBI surveillance.

He was President of the Light House Hill Civic Association and a Vice-Chairman of the Richmond County Citizens Committee for a Democratic Mayoral Candidate.

Additionally, Lauria ran as a primary candidate for the New York State Senate and was involved in various organizations such as the Staten Island Chamber Of Commerce and Community Boards #1 and #3.

His legacy of leadership, integrity, and service will continue to inspire generations.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, NY 10306, followed by a Mass on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 61 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, NY 10306.
