Obituary For Douglas Powers
Surrounded by loved ones, Douglas Powers, known affectionately as “Dougie” or “Doug” and
“Barrett Powers” in the art world, passed away peacefully in Naples, FL on July 23, 2023.
Douglas was born in Staten Island, NY and is survived by his mother Dianne, his father Barry,
his brother Brian and his family, wife Dayna and daughter Starling, his brother J.C. and family,
wife Mari, son Sebastian and daughter Isabel, his Uncle Steve and family, his Uncle John and
Family, and many beloved cousins and close friends. He is predeceased by his father Frank
Powers, grandfather John Molloy, his grandmother Josephine Molloy.
As a lifer at Staten Island Academy, Douglas founded and was the first captain of the Men’s
Volleyball team. Additionally, he left his mark as an aspiring artist on the gymnasium wall with
two murals. He went on to graduate from Wagner College in 2001 with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Fine Art and was the recipient of the highest art award at graduation.
After college, Douglas went on to be a Security Chief at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
In the mid 2000’s, Douglas decided to seriously pursue his art career and worked closely with
renowned artist Peter Max to develop and hone his skills. As a rising artist, he spent hours
upon hours in his art studio creating art and organizing art expositions for himself and fellow
artists. He later worked as a curator and designer at Peterson Galleries.
In 2017, Douglas moved to Las Vegas, NV. There he forged a reputation for himself in the gun
competition world, winning multiple long distance and endurance shooting competitions. A
lifelong dream was achieved when he auctioned a rare Mustang at the Mecum Auto Auction in
Douglas enjoyed cooking, spending time with his family, collecting rare and fine automobiles,
riding JetSkis, and competing and winning gun competitions around Las Vegas. Douglas
touched many lives . He was a Cherished Son, Loyal Brother, Beloved Uncle, Car Collector,
JetSki aficionado, Fine Artist and Gun Enthusiast and will be missed dearly by all who knew
