Obituary For Dorothy McDaniel

Dorothy McDaniel departed peacefully from this world on May 8, 2024, at the age of 97. “Dotty” lived a life brimming with love, adventure, and a kind heart that touched countless lives.

Born on a farm in Grasmere, a time far removed from modern conveniences, Dotty's spirit thrived amidst challenges. She was the youngest and last survived of nine siblings.

Dotty met and married the love of her life, Thomas "Buddy" McDaniel. They shared 57 beautiful years of marriage, before his passing 18 years ago. Together they raised five children: Christina, Thomas, Dorothy, Frank, and Richard. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

An embodiment of selflessness, Dotty dedicated herself to serving others. She volunteered her time teaching reading to young students and acting as a Cub Scout leader, shaping the minds and hearts of the next generation. Her home was always open, a sanctuary of warmth and compassion. After the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, she welcomed families into her home, offering them help in their time of need.

Dotty's spirit of adventure knew no bounds. She embraced life with zest, enjoying the simple pleasures of sewing and gardening, and delighting in the thrill of travel. From the bright lights of Las Vegas to the serene beauty of Hawaii and the rolling hills of Ireland, she explored the world with boundless curiosity and joy.

Her fondness for Atlantic City and the open seas led her on many unforgettable journeys, creating cherished memories with her loved ones along the way. Through it all, her faithful furry companion “Mr. Murphy”, held a special place in her heart, a constant source of comfort and companionship.

Though she may have left this earthly plane, Dotty's legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered, forever and always.

Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living, who became her extended family, providing her with love and support in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dotty's honor can be made to Tunnel to Towers, a cause close to her heart.

  • Viewing will begin Friday May 17, 2pm-4pm & 7pm-9pm. A funeral mass will be held the next day Saturday at Our Lady Queen Of Peace Church 9:30am followed by a burial at Moravian Cemetery.
