In Loving Memory of Dorothy Gilmore.

Dorothy Gilmore, a devoted mother, grandmother, and retired elementary school teacher, passed away at the age of 85 on Tuesday, July 18, 2023. She was born on February 28, 1938, and spent her fulfilling life in Staten Island, NY.

Dorothy was the beloved daughter of Anna and Frank Allmaier, who instilled in her the values of love, compassion, and education. She was a loving and caring mother to her three children, Frances, JoMarie married to Steve, and Andrew married to Melissa, and took great joy in watching them grow into exceptional individuals.

As a grandmother, Dorothy cherished her six grandchildren, Daniel married to Roya, Elena, Matthew, Thomas, Erica married to Samson, and Ryan. She always made time for them, nurturing their dreams and showering them with affection.

Dorothy had an inspiring career as an elementary school teacher, positively impacting the lives of countless young minds. She graduated from Kean College, Class of 1974, with a Master's in Education, which further enhanced her teaching abilities. She devoted many years of her life as a fifth-grade teacher at both PS 44 and PS 60, where her dedication to her students and passion for education earned her the admiration and respect of her colleagues and the school community.

Outside of her profession, Dorothy had a rich life filled with cherished hobbies. She had a passion for quilting and sewing, skillfully crafting beautiful masterpieces that will be treasured by her family for generations to come. Gathering with friends to play mahjong and canasta brought her immense joy, and she formed lasting bonds through these games.

One of Dorothy's most cherished pastimes was spending summers at the beach with her beloved family. These cherished moments created lasting memories and solidified the love that she had for each member of her family.

Dorothy's warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering love will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of compassion, wisdom, and dedication will forever live on through the lives she touched.

A viewing will be held on Friday July 21st from 2 PM - 4 PM and 7 PM - 9 PM at Hanley Funeral Home to pay tribute to Dorothy and bid her farewell. The funeral mass will take place at 10 AM on Saturday July 22nd at St. Patrick’s Church. Immediately following at St. Peter’s Cemetery she will be laid to rest in eternal peace.

As we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she led and the profound impact she had on those around her. May her soul rest in peace, and may her memory forever be a blessing to us all.
