Obituary

Loving mother, grandmother and sister, Dolores A. Bournos entered eternal life at the age of 78 on Saturday, August 23, 2025 unexpectedly from complications following a very brief illness. Born on June 4, 1947 to Carroll J. and Mary E. Tracy, Dolores was born, raised, and lived her entire life in the New Dorp section of Staten Island along with her siblings Mary, Janet, and Chuck Tracy. She was a proud graduate of St. Joseph Hill Academy High School. Shortly after graduation she began her first career as a secretary with the law firm of Davidson, Dawson & Clark in Manhattan where she worked until leaving to raise her family. She then had a more than 45-year career as an original employee of what is now known as the CPA firm of “DelRey, Tanzi, Guglietta, D’Ambrosi, CPA’s, LLC”. Her diligence, intellect, and ability to treat colleagues and clients as if they were part of her family and true friends made her cherished by all she dealt with, both professionally and personally. Her contacts were so vast that she became known affectionately as, “The Mayor of Staten Island.” In addition to her parents, Dolores was pre-deceased by her sister, Mary Smith and brother-in-law, Charles W. Smith, Jr. She is survived by her loving children, Caroline (Joseph) Diaco; Andrew (Danielle) Bournos, Jr., their father, Andrew Bournos, Sr.; her siblings, Janet (Philip) Mercurio and Charles J. (Tawn) Tracy; seven grandchildren: Max (Julia), Devon, Cassandra, Jesse, Gordon, Vivienne and Brock. To each of them she gave boundless love, thoughtful guidance, countless meals, gifts, and memories that will be cherished forever.

She was a woman of extraordinary strength. She was renowned for her cooking ability and made countless meals mainly for others which she personally delivered to family and friends. Dolores attended daily Mass at her beloved Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, where she was a life long parishioner. Dolores lived her life in the example of Christ: selfless, tireless, and full of joy. Her laughter and smile filled every room; her lists kept every family detail in order and her love bound us all together. Dolores’ family remembers her simply and profoundly as their Saintly Mother and Sister. May perpetual light shine upon her. In lieu of flowers, we request a small donation to be made in her honor to her favorite charity, JDRF, now known as Breakthrough T1d.

Visitation will be held at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, NY 10306 on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral from Hanley Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 10am.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 61 New Dorp Lane, Staten Island, NY 10306 on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 11:00am.
