Obituary For Constance Whitman

Born on July 21st, 1943 to Margaret and Charles Black in Somerville, NJ – Constance Frances Whitman went on to create 4 beautiful children that were responsible for her 10 beautiful grandchildren and 7 beautiful great granddaughters that she loved so much. She is also survived by a son in law that adored her. She was a legal secretary for many years with the US Navy and also in an insurance firm in Manhattan… but the job she loved the most was being a mother and she was “over the moon” as a grandmother, holding close and special relationships with each and every one of her grandchildren.

She was kind and caring, loving, helpful and generous. Her friends became more like family because she adored them… she loved harder than most people. For 80 years she touched every heart she encountered. For the people that love her, she brought a certain light to the world that makes it all seem a little dim now.

On August 13th, 2023, at 10:20pm Constance Whitman went on to dance and sing with her Lord, Jesus Christ - where she joined her sister, Diane Black and her loved ones that passed on before. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always by all that loved her.

Services will be held August 26th, 2023 at St. Joseph's Rosebank - 466 Tompkins Avenue Staten Island, New York 10305 @ 11:00 am provided through Hanley Funeral home. There will be a small gathering at Cielo – 1435 Hylan Blvd Staten Island, NY.

Connie I just saw you have passed. I am so sorry for your loss for your family and friends and grandchildren honey and I knew each other when I lived in New York Wayback in 1969 to 1972. Our children were both young and we shared babysitting duties from time to time we would go out to movies together and have lots of fun. Oh, Connie I was so hoping that I would make it to Staten Island to visit you but now you're gone and I'm so sad You were such a beautiful girl and such a wonderful mother and I loved her so. Rest in peace Connie. Your memory live on forever.

Though I never got the honor to meet Connie live, her warmth and kind heart was beyond evident when we spoke on the phone. She ended every conversation with "I love you!" her smile, gratitude and enthusiasm seeping through the electronics. I was truly touched. And I returned the "I love you too!" just as passionately and it was fully my truth. One small gesture gave me comfort when I lost my Daddy to become and adult orphan and I will share it in hopes it will do the same. Hopi Prayer Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die. May all of our hearts heal and carry on her love. And may we all lead by her beautiful maternal example. Much Love, Athena

Connie was such an amazing person! She was an awesome mother and grandma, who sacrificed so much for her family! She was kind, loving, faithful, generous, smart, witty, a sharped tongued firecracker, she was an opinionated and outspoken bold proud Italian woman! She was a very devout catholic and loved her god. I wish she'd been my stepmom instead of the one I had and so I thought of her as such. I spoke to her often throughout the years as she was so supportive and loving. I enjoyed her stories of my dad and she always brought me comfort and love! Our relationship was over the phone because she lived in New York most her life, and I've lived on the west coast, but when we did see each other in person it was like there had been no distance. I will miss our long conversations and her loving kindness. RIP BEAUTIFUL LADY
